Bone & Joint

Whether you are a Homemaker, Retiree or hardcore Bodybuilder, bone and joint health are equally important. If you start taking care of your Bones and Joints before you have problems, they will take care of you for a lifetime. The key minerals for bone strength are Calcium and Magnesium. Another very important ingredient to bone health that is often overlooked is Vitamin D. Without the proper levels of Vitamin D in your body, you will not be able to properly utilize the Calcium that you might be taking. People often take more and more Calcium because they think it will make a difference, when in reality they should be taking additional Vitamin D. There is a tremendous amount of research being done every day on the importance of Vitamin D. Some of the top experts in Vitamin D research are recommending a daily dosage of 3-6 thousand IU per day. The American Academy of Pediatrics has even doubled the recommended dosage for Children to 400IU per day. Enough about Vitamin D for now but remember for strong bones it is a must! Exercise is important to our overall health, it makes us feel good and helps keep our bodies younger. One aspect of exercise that some men, women and seniors shy away from is weight training. Weight training can help you maintain Bone Density in a big way. For those who are not experienced in weight training let me start by saying; No you are not going to get to big, trust me many of us work very hard to get big and it is not as easy as just picking up some weights. Secondly, you do not have to hit the gym hard six day a week and lift huge amounts of weight to maintain bone density. If you started a program of twice per week for twenty minutes per day, you should get some benefit. If you are unsure what to do in the gym speak with a qualified trainer and always consult your Dr. before starting any exercise program. Your joints are one of the little miracles in your body. They can carry tremendous amounts of weight day in and day out and can give you years and years use. Your joints are complex and are made up of: Cartilage, Membrane, Ligaments, Tendons and more, they even have their own built in lubrication system. In order to maintain healthy joints you need to exercise, including stretching and maintain a healthy diet. Some of the foods that may help your joint health are: Fruits, Vegetables, Whole Grains and Fish that are high in Omega-3's. Some of the supplements that we carry to support Bone and Joint Health are: Glucosamine & Chondroitin, MSM, Calcium & Magnesium, Hyaluronic Acid, Cissus Quadrangularis, and Omega-3', oh and don't forget the Vitamin D. Most of the supplements are in Capsule form but for those of you that dislike pills, we also carry some liquid supplements.
